It's not the usual heavy-duty or overly flexible trail wheel. Instead, we at Specialized have created a lightweight, wide-profile, enduro-ready carbon wheel realizing the dream of most enthusiastic cyclists.
To eradicate the usual issues of creaky straight-pull spokes and corrosion-prone alloy nipples in traditional wheels, we've designed a wide profile, high flange hub with 28 J-bend spokes. This configuration not only boosts stiffness but also simplifies finding replacements when needed.
The wheel might sound big boned but with a 30mm inner rim width, it’s far from a fat bike rim. Testing with wider rims offered several benefits like additional tire volume, better support during hard cornering, improved traction due to lower pressure capability, and increased rim stiffness.
Our Zero Bead Hook technology, combined with the wider wheel profile, optimally distributes impact forces providing you a robust wheel capable of resisting cracks or dents from rocks. Despite its strength and durability, the SL Fattie is far from heavy. The wheel is hand-built to our own alloy hubs, using only top-quality DT Swiss Competition Race spokes, limiting weight without compromising the strength.
The DT Swiss internals include a quick engaging 54t DT Swiss star ratchet system in the back, allowing you to power over rocky outcrops and complex terrains without hesitation.
